STAY GRANTED FOR MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATON:
On November 26, 2021, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit granted a stay of the District Court’s September 27, 2021, and October 27, 2021, orders pending appeal. With the stay granted, the implementation plans of these court orders as outlined on October 26, 2021, and November 1, 2021, memoranda are POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. There has been a calendar date set for March 2022 for appeal. This does not apply to the previous August 23, 2021 memorandum related to August 19, 2021, California Department of Public Health Order. Staff specifically identified in the August 23, 2021 memorandum shall continue to adhere to the requirements and timelines outlined in that memorandum and subsequent October 25, 2021, email directive from the Division of Adult Institutions specific to custody classifications. CCSO will continue to monitor all information and directives and provide updates to our members as soon as possible. Annual STB Drive:
Over the past few weeks, CCSO State Board Member Sgt. Jeff Welch, PBSP, Executive Representative Sgt. Craig Sorensen, CIM, along with other CCSO representatives, have visited 20 prisons to solicit annual and regular Supervisory Time Bank (STB) donations. It was a huge success and we finished with a total of 1235 STB hours. Additionally, 31 new members signed up. CCSO is grateful to Jeff, Craig, and everyone else who assisted in this effort. CCSO appreciates your hard work! The table below highlights the results, and the list of incentives follows if you would like to donate. Please reach out to your local Chapter President, or contact the CCSO office, if we missed you on our visits and you are interested in donating.
Centinela State Prison Gives Back to the Community:
The Centinela State Prison (CEN) CCSO Chapter, along with the Imperial County of Education (ICOE), was featured in the Imperial Valley Press last month for helping families in need by providing Thanksgiving dinners to less fortunate families within the local community. CEN Chapter President, Lieutenant Mario Alonzo, and the ICOE Director have partnered to bring additional resources to students and their families.
Lt. Alonzo and other CEN staff have done numerous fundraisers, including a sock drive and delivering pizzas to families, and have many planned for the future. Lt. Alonzo plans to adopt a family this holiday season and has challenged other lieutenants to join him. He hopes that providing colleagues a way to give back to their community, will help them to continue well after he retires.
