President’s Remarks:
On July 28, 2023, the CCSO State Board of Directors held their 3rd Quarter meeting in person at the CCSO office. Seven of the eight board members were in attendance. The meeting was productive, and our Chief Financial Officer noted, ‘Financially, we are in a good state.’ Our membership has increased, and we are continuing to grow. We look forward to seeing our chapter presidents in a few months at our annual conference.
Sergeants and Lieutenants:
The 6.25% salary increase for sergeants and lieutenants has been implemented. We have received numerous calls from Headquarters and Academy staff regarding the additional 2.5 hours staff must work weekly. This is a learning curve for everyone, and we are addressing these concerns with CDCR labor relations.
CCSO Annual Conference:
The 2023 annual conference is scheduled for October 19-21 in Monterey, CA. Space is limited, and priority will be given to chapter presidents. We have changed our expense reimbursement policy, and CCSO will no longer pay for airfare, mileage, or rental cars. However, CCSO will provide a stipend of $350 for each attendee, which will be provided upon your attendance and completion of both the General Meeting and Conference. Lodging will be provided at the Monterey Marriott. STB will also be provided if needed.
Itinerary:
Thursday 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.: Welcome Reception
Friday 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.: General Meeting. This will be a closed-door meeting, with only the State Board of Directors, Chapter Presidents, and CCSO staff.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Annual Conference.
CCSO Annual Golf Tournament:
CCSO’s annual golf tournament is on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Oakdale Golf and Country Club in Oakdale, California. The event is open to members, non-members, family, and friends. Spots are filling up quickly, and we recommend you sign up soon before the tournament sells out. If you are interested in playing, please get in touch with Rudy Marquez at 209-604-6391. Thank you, and we hope to see you out there!
CCSO Institution Visits:
CCSO representatives may be in your area in the coming months. They will be touring the institution and speaking with members and prospective members. Please get in touch with your Chapter President if you wish to visit with them or have any questions or concerns. We are scheduled to visit the following institutions:
August 9, 2023 – LAC
August 10, 2023 – CAC
August 31, 2023 – RJD
Outstanding Representation:
We received the following correspondence and wanted to share it. We truly value the hard work and success of our attorneys.
“I would like to take a moment to openly express my deepest gratitude to the California Correctional Supervisors Organization (CCSO) for providing me access to outstanding legal representation using Michael McCoy (Mike) from Castillo Harper APC., who represented and defended me during a CDCR administrative investigation and subsequent State Personnel Board (SPB) processes.
From the onset of the investigation to the end at SPB, Mike was very thorough in his practices, very communicative, and always kept me informed. He welcomed my participation in gathering information and evidence and my involvement in the tedious review processes necessary to formulate a proper defense. Mike scrutinized every element of each allegation presented against me and provided formidable protection against all the grave and fallacious claims made by the department.
The entire investigation and subsequent process from beginning to end was an extremely stressful time for my family and me. This investigation and the associated allegations have been professionally, personally, and physically detrimental to me and my career. Still, in the end, truth prevailed. Mike’s hard work, persistence, and experience highlighted the facts. Throughout the process, Mike remained focused on the task as we continued to fight the good fight. Ultimately, through endless hours of hard work, perseverance, and determination, the truth of the matter became apparent, and we prevailed at the SPB, where I was completely exonerated from any wrongdoing.
In closing, I feel it necessary to thank CCSO, Mike McCoy, and Castillo Harper for supporting me and my family in our time of need – your successful efforts will not be forgotten.” If you would like to share your experience, please submit an email to the office at ccso@ccsonet.org.
