Governor’s May Revise:
On Friday, May 10, 2024, Governor Newsom announced his revised state budget (May revise) for fiscal year 2024/25, in which he outlined his proposals to tackle an unprecedented budget deficit. Amongst some of his budget-cutting highlights are two proposals that will significantly impact CDCR and our members.
The proposed revision calls for the speed-up closure of Chuckawalla Valley State Prison (CVSP) to be closed in November 2024 rather than the original projected date of March 2025. Also proposed is the closure/deactivation of 46 housing units from 13 prisons, which will be identified in the near future.
The Governor’s revisions did not mention the dreaded “F” word or any other pay reductions to state workers. As we are informed, CCSO will keep you updated on any new information regarding the budget.
