Quarterly State Board Meeting Summary – Provided by Chapter President Christian Gray, CSATF
On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the CCSO State Board conducted the 4th Quarter meeting. The meeting was productive as a multitude of subjects were discussed and shared, with healthy and professional debate occurring periodically throughout the meeting.
The board discussed the consideration of building a carport over the parking lot and installing solar. Currently, CCSO spends approximately $9000 per year on energy costs. After looking at the cost analysis and the cumulative savings of the project at today’s rates, CCSO can expect over $80,000 in savings over the life of the system. As of now, they have received bids from Current Energy and Renewable Technologies.
Bylaw changes were discussed, with the recommendation that only members physically present be allowed to vote unless prior approval is given for participation via Zoom or electronic voting in exceptional circumstances. This would require a quorum of at least two-thirds of the board, or six members, to be present for any new initiative to pass.
CCSO has been looking into ways to offer better insurance benefits to our members. Through legislative discussion, it was discovered that one organizational benefit trust fund was subsidized by taxpayer money, which is how they are able to offer member discounts on health plans. Another organization is able to give a CALPERS-sponsored stipend to their membership to offset rising costs. When discussing potential benefits for members with members of the state legislators, it was suggested that Art and Gilbert attend the CALPERS Healthcare meetings in order to gain information on possible avenues of increasing member benefits. As of now, CCSO is looking to offer improved or additional dental and vision supplements to the current plans offered to excluded employees. Additional life insurance options are also being researched.
A unanimous vote approved the dues increase for our retired members. The additional $5.00 monthly fee will take effect in January 2025, increasing the death benefit to $2,000.
