This year the CCSO State Board of Directors selected Ironwood State Prison (ISP) Sergeant John McAllister as the Chapter President of the year.
John has been the ISP Chapter President for many years, during which he has stood up to management and other labor organization members to help improve working conditions and to resolve issues before they got out of hand.
Last year, John was instrumental in resolving an overtime issue for supervisors who were being mandated to work overtime following the basic supervisor training held on campus. Normally this training detaches supervisors from work. Then, several of these same supervisors who were involuntarily being required to work overtime, were also docked when the class trainer released them early on the last day of training. With the help of Sergeant McAllister, CCSO was successful to resolve both these matters, and to stop any supervisor from being docked pay.
John also assisted members with an unfair work hour changes and reacted appropriately to administration’s failure to the meet and confer requirement for excluded employee change in working conditions. John is also in dispute with a rank and file union who attempted to force him out of his super seniority assignment, by giving up his presidency. John stated, “That being a CCSO president mean more to him than anything else, and would never give up what he believes in”.
For this, and many other reasons, we congratulate ISP Sergeant John McAllister as the Chapter President of the year for 2017.
